Meet the Cast
Ella Carson (The Little Prince) is excited for her first show at The Judy! Previously, you may have seen Ella in her Drammy award-winning performance as the title character in NWCT’s 2019 production of Matilda.
“We had the most wonderful cast and crew, and getting to work with each and every one of them was so rewarding,” Ella recalls. “I specifically enjoyed doing meet and greets and hearing all of the children’s opinions on the show.”
Ella just graduated from Oklahoma City University with a BFA in Acting. Recent credits include Sally (The Cat in the Hat, Oklahoma Children’s Theater) and Puck (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, TheatreOCU). In September, she and her boyfriend will be making the move to Chicago to pursue their acting careers.
Ella’s favorite flower is daffodils because they make her think of Portland. As a child, her favorite thing to draw was little characters with their own unique features, powers, and pets.
“I was especially inspired by Sailor Moon, and would draw my own versions of Sailor Guardians!” she says.
Ella would like to thank Tyler for always supporting her, her dad for being such a great summer roommate, and her mom, family, and close friends for being awesome.
Maggie Stanton (The Aviator) is thrilled to return to NWCT! While it’s impossible to pick just one favorite memory with the company, Maggie still remembers when she and Ella Carson played the guards Peri and Pandu in Tenali.
“One of our scenes involved us playing leapfrog, so we spent hours practicing and perfecting our leapfrogging skills,” Maggie explains. “I’m very lucky to get to spend a lot of time being professionally goofy with Ella.”
Maggie’s favorite book as a child was The Phantom Tollbooth. She was (and still is!) really good at drawing horse heads facing the right– horse body not included.
Emma Sanders (Fox) is thrilled for her second alumni show at The Judy! “It’s always a gift to return to a space that was so formative for me and so many that I love,” Emma says. “I wouldn’t dream of doing anything else this summer!”
So far, Emma’s favorite NWCT memory is Roger teaching the interns how to play 52-card pickup. While interning alongside her sister, Charlie, Emma enjoyed plenty of “on- and offstage shenanigans!” She co-directed and edited Seussical, and also appeared on the Mainstage as Bagheera in The Jungle Book and Emma Bird in The Starlings Present: Dinosaur!
Recently, Emma got a film, television, radio, and media production degree in the UK, where she was also the director of her university’s musical theater company.
Emma’s favorite flower is a tie between lavender and daisies. Instead of a planet like the Little Prince, Emma would live on a moon– and it would be cheese.
Emma would like to thank QFC sushi, her parents, cats, and The Judy for being air conditioned!
Aleena Yee (Rose & Others) is excited to make new connections and rekindle old ones!
After revisiting The Little Prince, a book she never quite understood as a child, she realized that this was a story she was really excited to tell– and that “resonates a lot” with her at this point in her life.
Currently, Aleena is receiving her BFA in Acting from UNC Greensboro, where she most recently appeared as Madame Pernelle in Tartuffe.
“NWCT provided me with resources to pursue my passion,” Aleena says. “It helped me realize that theater was something I wanted to keep doing in college and beyond.”
Aleena’s favorite flower is wisteria, “especially when they hang from the edge of roofs!” As a child, she liked drawing rainbows because they let her use all the colors in the box.
Aleena would like to thank Sarah Jane for welcoming her back with open arms, as well as Florence Le Bas, the cast, and creative team for making this a fun and joyous show to be a part of. She’d also like to shout out her family and friends for always supporting her in her passions.
Max O’Hare (Snake & Others) is overjoyed for another alumni show!
Memorable NWCT mainstage performing credits include Max Bird in The Starlings Present: Dinosaurs!, Friar Tuck in Robin Hood and Nana the Dog in Peter Pan. He also performed as Hamlet & Others in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Interns NW.
Max recently graduated from Wesleyan University with a double major in the College of Social Studies and Theater. While at Wesleyan, he appeared as Malvolio in Twelfth Night and as the title character in Everybody.
As a child, Max really loved drawing UglyDolls. “My dad and I would go out to the craft store and buy a canvas and paint pens, and I’d spend the whole day painting my own UglyDolls concepts,” he explains. “Some of them are still up in my parents’ house!”
Max would like to thank Sarah Jane for entrusting him with this show, as well as all his fellow alumni for coming together to produce something amazing.
“I’m really grateful that I’m getting to do this show with so many people I spent so much time with in high school at NWCT,” he says.
Annabel Cantor (Men on Planets) is an actor, director, and lighting designer with a love of colorful, immediate, and site-specific work. They are a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and PETE’s Institute for Contemporary Performance. Most recently, Annabel directed ENDURANCE: The Boat, The Show, presented as part of the 2024 CoHo Residency. Last year, Annabel appeared in Dragons Love Tacos at Oregon Children’s Theater as the White Dragon.
Fun Facts: Annabel’s favorite flower is a yellow magnolia tree. Her very own planet would have orange groves, a bakery, a bubbling brook, and a robustly funded public library.
Meet the Creative Team
Florence Le Bas (Director) is a Brooklyn-based theater director and costume designer originally from Aotearoa, New Zealand. As an artist, she’s committed to creating spaces that are joyful, intentional, and honest. Her storytelling often centers women, the LGBTQ+ community, and finding the magic in the mundane.
Florence has a BA in Theater from Whitman College and an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College. Recent credits include In the Next Room… and When the Tanks Break (Brooklyn College, New Workshop Theater); Endless Moon and Free Chickpea (Weasel Festival, The Tank); Start Up (SheNYC, The Connely), and Thoroughtiveness (IRT). She’s also worked with The Bushwick Starr, En Garde Arts, The Public Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Center, Irondale Ensemble Project, and, of course, NWCT! Her favorite memory with the company was during a school show performance of Narnia in 2009.
“We had a power outage and ended up continuing the show concert style with flashlights,” Florence recalls. “It was a reminder of the impact of live performance.”
Florence would like to thank Sarah Jane as well as everyone at NWCT for this opportunity and for their support throughout this production. Special thanks to my parents, for always picking me up from rehearsals— even 15 years later.
Henry Martin (Scenic, Properties, & Sound Designer) has been working with NWCT since he was a little kid. Most recently, you may have seen flinging cow patties in another alumni show, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales.
As a child, Henry liked to draw rocket ships, trees, and himself. His favorite book was Cars, Trucks, and Things That Go by Richard Scarry.
“I loved analyzing each page of colorful vehicles, all the animals aboard, and trying to find the little hidden goldbug,” he says.
Fun Fact: Henry’s favorite flower is a hydrangea!
Max O’Hare (Lighting & Sound Designer) is thrilled to make his lighting design debut!
Currently NWCT’s production coordinator, Max was the stage manager for Go, Dog. Go!, The Halloween Ball, and last year’s alumni show, The Stinky Cheese Man. He previously assisted with the lighting design for The Halloween Ball and worked as the light board operator for Rudolph.
When he was younger, Max’s favorite book was Where the Wild Things Are. He’s actually named after the main character Max!
Max would like to extend a special thank you to those who helped him along the way as he learned to design lights for the first time.
“Thank you to Paul Brown for showing me the ropes and offering me great advice, and to Annabel Cantor for stepping in to help me program. Thank you to Henry Martin for assisting me as I spent long days programming. And a very special thank you to Florence LeBas for working with me to create this beautiful show!”
Emma Sanders (Costume Designer) is back behind the scenes at NWCT! Previously, Emma ran crew for the Mainstage production of Matilda. She was also Tinkerbell’s spotlight in Peter Pan.
“I actually started out in the booth as a spotlight operator for The Starlings Present: Dinosaurs! as well,” Emma recalls. “But when one of our cast members had to leave for closing weekend, I filled in at the last minute as Emma Bird. That was the only time I was on the tech team and in the show at the same time — well, besides now!”
Recently, Emma graduated from Liverpool Hope University, where she directed and costume designed 9 to 5. At LHU, she was also the sound operator and costume, lighting, scenic, and properties designer for Shrek the Musical. Prior to university, she also did costume, hair, and makeup design for Franklin High School’s production of Bye Bye Birdie.
Emma hopes you enjoy all the pink tutus, aviator goggles, and velvet suits this show has to offer!
Joey Barrett (Stage Manager) can’t wait for another alumni show at NWCT!
So far, one of their favorite memories with the company is interacting with audience members and campers before The Stinky Cheese Man last year– “especially getting people to do the chicken dance!”
Joey’s favorite flower is a peony. “They’re always a showstopper in a bouquet, all throughout their lifespan,” he explains.
As a child, his favorite thing to draw was a star, even if it took him “a really long time” to figure out the criss-cross style that makes them symmetrical.
