First-Year Interns are selected by:
1) Written application (due July 1, 2020)
2) Two Recommendations (due July 1, 2020)
3) Interview (A parent or guardian must attend the interview)
Interested applicants must complete ALL THREE of the steps above to be considered.
Advanced Training Programs
All First-Year Interns participate in advanced training that focuses on performance and production-related skills. Interns are required to attend 20 hours of classes per term. Students may be excused from class for Mainstage or other performance conflicts. All other absences must be discussed with, and approved by, the program directors. A detailed calendar will be made available to interns by the time of their scheduled interview. Classes and tickets to events will be offered throughout the season; details to be announced.
Interns produce an annual Intern Showcase in the spring with opportunities for acting, singing, directing, and tech work. The showcase is student-led, and the form and content varies based on the group’s interest.
Company Events & Season Announcement
First-Year Interns will be asked to assist with NWCT galas and fundraising events, including the Season Announcement Party. Many interns have been able to apply these hours towards credit for community service requirements at school.
All First-Year Interns are assigned to work backstage on one Mainstage production as a stagehand, wardrobe/dresser, or booth technician. NWCT Mainstage productions include weekday performances. First-Year Interns will be required to be excused from up to four days of school in order to complete their Technical Requirement. NWCT will contact your school to request excused absences for the time missed, but you are ultimately responsible for securing approved absences with your school. Seven to ten days prior to opening, technical and dress rehearsals may run 4 – 5 hours nightly and will include a long Saturday/Sunday commitment.
Interns must indicate their availability for two productions at the time of their interview. Each First Year will work approximately 175 hours over the course of about 6 weeks on a show.
Front of House Requirement
All First-Year Interns are required to work as an Assistant House Manager for eight performances per season on either Mainstage or Second Stage productions.
