Acting

Introduction to Acting

Ages 6-14

Learn basic acting techniques, tips and terms. This fun format introduces students to voice projection, stage direction, theater etiquette, scene work and more.Students will be invited to attend a free performance of Pinocchio. Suggested prerequisite to playlabs..

Intermediate Acting

Age 11-16

Review basic acting techniques then move on to in-depth character analysis, monologues, scene work and more. Intermediate students will be invited to attend a free performance of Pinocchio. Previous class or performance work required.

Advanced Acting Studio - Session I

Ages 11-16

This winter, students will workshop scenes and monologues from classic plays, then compare and contrast diverse playwrights, themes, eras and styles of acting. Studio is open to KidsPro NW or by teacher approval. Contact Suezann Kitchens, suezann@nwcts.org.

Comic Book Characters

Ages 8-11

If you’re a comic book and theater fan, this class is for you! Comic book artist and actor Andrew Barton will introduce students to character work using an innovative interdisciplinary process to help students create, develop, costume and perform original characters through use of art, improvisation and games.

Private Coaching

All Ages

One-on-one intensive coaching for musical and non-musical theater will help you choose and polish music, monologues or scenes and give you audition tips and techniques. One session or multiple sessions available. By appointment only, 503-222-2190.

Musical Theater

Singing Silly Songs!

Ages 7-9

Does your child enjoy music? Nick will introduce young students to basic musical skills with a bevy of silly songs, old, new and in-between and compose an original class silly song!

Creative Movement

Ages 4-7

Beginning dancers will use creative movement to tell fairy tales as they are introduced to classical ballet and tap fundamentals.

Beginning Voice and Dance

Ages 9-12

Kelly and Kurt will introduce students to voice and dance techniques, with an emphasis on performing for musical theater. The classes will work on solos and group numbers from favorite musicals. Class limit 12.

Film and Video

Basic TV/Film Acting

Ages 8-16

Act on camera and get a taste of the exciting world of film acting. Sandra will introduce you to improvisation, presentation, audition skills and scene acting, using real commercial, TV and film scripts! Class limit 8.

Technical Theater

Backstage

Join Drammy winner Roger Monroe and the fascinating world of technical theater. Learn about sound and lighting design, special effects and more. You will be invited to sit in on a selected mainstage rehearsal, and be a techie for “An Addams Family…” playlab performance.

Acting ABCs—Winter at the Zoo!

Ages 4½-6

“A” is for acting and “B” is for backstage and “C” is for costumes that we love! Beginners will learn about theater as they act out stories, play theater games, and sing songs—all about polar bears, penguins and other winter animals!

Little Puppy Lost

Playlab Classes
The following classes will put on a play. Students will audition,
rehearse, and perform. Everyone gets a part!
Size or nature of roles is at the professional discretion of our instructors.
All roles provide a valuable learning experience. No refunds granted due
to dissatisfaction with assigned roles. Most playlab performances
will be videotaped and made available for purchase.

The Pea and the Princesses!

This original script reinvents the Hans Christian Andersen story to explore the funny frenzy as favorite fairytale princesses compete to marry the same eligible prince! Warm up your winter with this musical adventure complete with clever characters, melodic tunes and a talking pea!

An Addams Family Tribute

Fantasy, Folk and Fairytales

Dinosaur School

Ages 8-11

What if you had your very own dinosaur? What if you wanted to take him to school with you? How would you train him, and what would your teacher say? Focus on comedic timing and techniques in this original playlab which explores kids’ odd fascination with dinosaurs! Pretty cool huh?

How to be a Pirate!

Ahoy, lads and lassies! Board the Escape to learn pirate lore and lingo, then explore the seven seas, frolic with the mermaids and make a secret stop in Neverland to kidnap Tinkerbell! Arrrrr!

Classic Theater

The Imaginary Invalid

Ages 12-16

This wonderfully satiric French play was written and produced by Moliere in 1673. The miser Argan imagines himself sick, and wants his daughter to marry a doctor so he can get free medical care. But of course Angelique is in love with another… So begin the mix-ups and shenanigans that make this farce a joy (and a challenge!) to perform.

Scouts & Brownie Badge Workshop

Ages 6 & Up

Attend a theater class, see Narnia or Pinocchio, and complete your theater badge, all on the same evening! (Boys welcome too, but please note activities may not qualify for the Boy Scout badge.) Room for a short dinner break is provided. Scout leader is free. Other parents/chaperones pay half-price.
