Acting

Introduction to Acting

Ages 6-14

Learn basic acting techniques, tips and terms. This fun format introduces students to voice projection, stage direction, theater etiquette, scene work and more. Students will be invited to attend a free performance of Madeline and the Gypsies.This class is a suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Intermediate Acting

Age 11-16

Review basic acting techniques then move on to in-depth character analysis, monologues, scene work and more. Intermediate students will be invited to attend a free performance of Madeline and the Gypsies. Previous class or performance experience required.

Advanced Acting Studio - Session III

Ages 11-16

For spring, we will add a second class for advanced students. Both Studios will work on contemporary scenes and musical theater. Studio I will also focus on the KidsPro play. For teacher approval, contact Suezann Kitchens, suezann@nwcts.org.

All Ages

One-on-one intensive coaching for musical and non-musical theater will help you choose and polish music, monologues or scenes and give you audition tips and techniques. Musical Theater

Beginning Voice and Dance

Ages 9-12

Kelly and Tracy will introduce students to voice and dance techniques, with an emphasis on performing for musical theater. The classes will work on solos and group numbers from favorite musicals. Class limit 12.

Film and Video

Basic TV/Film Acting

Ages 8-16

Act on camera and get a taste of the exciting world of film acting. Sandra will introduce you to improvisation, presentation, audition skills and scene acting using real commercial, TV and film scripts! Class is limited to 8.

Technical Theater

Backstage

Ages 11-16

Join Drammy winner Roger Monroe and the fascinating world of technical theater. Learn about sound and lighting design, special effects and more. Class will be invited to sit in on a selected mainstage rehearsal and be a techie for the Money, Money, Money! playlab performance on June 6.

Acting ABCs—Spring Fever!

Ages 4½-6

“A” is for acting and “B” is for backstage and “C” if for costumes that we love! This term beginners will focus on &ldqup;S&rdqup; to explore theater as they act out Stories and Sing Songs—all about Spring and the special magic it brings.

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

What is cuter and funnier than a monkey? Our youngest actors acting like monkeys – that’s what! Lisa will introduce class to performance basics through great monkey stories that encourage self expression and self-esteem. Class limit 8.

Playlab Classes
The following classes will put on a play. Students will audition,
rehearse, and perform. Everyone gets a part!
Size or nature of roles is at the professional discretion of our instructors.
All roles provide a valuable learning experience. No refunds granted due
to dissatisfaction with assigned roles. Most playlab performances will be
videotaped and made available for purchase.

Fantasy, Folk and Fairytales

Country Mouse & City Mouse

Ages 7-9

Two adventurous mice have very different adventures in this fun updated version of the Aesop Fable. We add costumes, funny characters and music that is just right for beginning performers.

The Golden Goose

Comedy Theater

Money, Money, Money!

Ages 12-16

This British farce, full of mistaken identity and chaos, is set in the 1920s. A deeply in debt aristocrat fakes his own death to pay the bills. Much absurd confusion results in this truly funny play with great male and female parts.

Audition Workshop (NWCT season auditions: 6/9-13)

Ages 9-18

This intensive audition workshop will prepare students for various types of auditions. Students will compile resumes, learn cold-reading, improv techniques, and audition etiquette. Guests will provide information on varied audition topics. Each student will receive individual coaching to prepare a monologue and a song for audition. Tuition includes information booklet and Star Struck Seminar. Last class is your NWCT season audition.

Star Struck Seminar

All Ages

Does your child have stars in their eyes? Then attend this seminar! Agents, directors and young actors will present information on kids in “The Business.” Topics include training, costs, portfolios, agents, odds of success and much more. Afterwards, mingle with the panel for one on one dialogue. Information booklet and light refreshments included. KidsPro members free.

Scouts & Brownie Badge Workshop

Ages 6 & Up

Attend a theater class, see Madeline and the Gypsies!, and complete your theater badge, all on the same evening! (Boys welcome too, but please note activities may not qualify for the Boy Scout badge.) Room for a short dinner break is provided. Scout leader is free. Other parents/chaperones pay $12.
