Skills Classes

From intro level to advanced, the following classes are
designed to help students hone specific theater skills.

Introduction to Acting - Voice & the Actor Ages 6-9
This fun format introduces students to basic acting techniques, tips and terminology. This term will be focused of correct use of the voice which is a great stepping stone in becoming a well-rounded actor. Suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Intermediate Acting - Character Acting Ages 10-14
Come and delve into the exciting world of character acting this term! Students learn how to use their bodies as well as voices to portray some of drama’s most boisterous characters.

Improv: Soap Opera Style Ages 10-14
Learn the fascinating and completely ridiculous style of soap opera acting through improv! Actors will develop characters that will perform an improvised soap episode each week the last 15 minutes of class! Recommended for Second Stage students.

Creative Puppeteer Workshop Ages 8-12
Learn the secrets of bringing puppets to life on stage! Students will master skills in developing puppet characters as well as vocal work. The last class will be a student performed puppet show!

Musical Theater & Dance

Harmony! Ages 8-14
This choir style class helps students learn proper vocal technique and holding a harmony. Through musical theater, choral, folk, and pop music students will explore their vocal ranges while having fun! Recommended for Second Stage Students.

Voice & Dance Combo: From Hairspray! Ages 7-14
Learn the basics of movement and singing through the high energy and bopping numbers of Hairspray! Students will learn group choreography as well as solo features. Class members receive a free ticket to NWCT’s Second Stage production: West Side Story!

First Stage

NWCT offers these exciting theater classes
for our youngest performers.

Penguin Playground Ages 3-5
You are invited to waddle and belly slide at the Penguin Playground! Students will read stories and play games based on famous penguins! This is a perfect beginning class for the tiniest actors.

Acting ABCs — Let’s Build a Snowman! Ages 4-6
Start at the beginning in this exciting world of creative drama with puppets, songs, stories, and plenty of play acting focused on the magic of winter time and magical snowmen!

Pirates at Tinkerbell’s Tea Party! Ages 6-9
Tinkerbell and her fairy friends are gathering for their annual pixie tea party! Little do they know there is about to be a shipwreck of uninvited pirates searching for a mysterious treasure!

Write Your Own: School for Ghouls! Ages 7-10
Are you tired of trying to fit into normal society? Then don’t! Join your fellow supernatural friends in this fabulous monster inspired class! Students will work together to create characters, a script and end with a ghoulish performance!

Classical Theater

Something Wicked This Way Comes Ages 11-15
Take a Shakespearean journey into the plethora of literature’s most vile villains. Students will perform scenes and monologues in a collage of the most wicked! Recommended for Second Stage students.

Los Tres Cerditos/The Three Little Pigs Ages 6-9
Spanish speakers of all levels are encouraged to join this fairytale full of scheming pigs, fed up towns-animals and un lobo feroz! This dual language playlab promises to be educational and plenty of fun!

Mystery of the Frozen Crown Ages 7-11
The beloved Ice Queen’s winter magic has mysteriously vanished! The citizens of Ice Kingdom scramble for answers as their hopes for the future begin to melt! This playlab is filled with wintery music and chilling magic!

Family Theater

Each winter we offer a unique family class that allows families to rehearse and act together. Sign up and share a special time with your young person!

The Frog Prince: Life After Kiss < Ages 7 & Up
The Princess kissed the frog and they lived happily ever after&hellp;sort of. See what truly happens in this not-so-happy conclusion to the beloved fairytale. Families get the chance to experience the great joy of theater together in this totally rockin’ musical production! Parents/Guardians welcome for $40 each.

Character Creation Factory — Roald Dahl Ages 6-10
Have you ever wanted to take a tour of that famous chocolate factory? How about hang out with big friendly giants? In this creative EXPLORE class, students get a chance to create their own character based on the stories of Roald Dahl!
