designed to help students hone specific theater skills.

Acting

Introduction to Acting Ages 6-9
This fun format introduces students to basic acting techniques, tips and terms. Class will work on projection, stage direction, theater etiquette, scene work and more. Students are invited to attend Goodnight Moon for free! Suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Intermediate Acting Ages 10-14
Review basic acting techniques, move to in-depth character analysis, monologues, scene work and more. Students are invited to attend Good Night Moon for free!

Stand Up 101 Ages 8-12
Are you a master at telling funny stories and jokes? It’s time to put those comedic skills to good use! Learn to write, workshop and perform your own stand up routine with an NWCT comedy pro. This class promises to be a laugh riot!

Improvisation Masters: Long Form Ages 11-16
Come and get acquainted with the fastest growing improvisation craze on the West Coast! Long Form Improv is a great training for actors to learn on-stage communication skills. Not to mention, it is also incredibly fun! Recommended for Second Stage students.

Musical Theater


Voice & Dance Combo: Modern Musicals Ages 7-14
Learn the basics of movement and singing through exciting modern musical numbers! Students will learn group choreography as well as solo features.

All that Jazz Ages 10-14
Students will learn basic elements of jazz dance including specific jazz styles, stretches, floor movement and how it all fits into the world of musical theater. Recommended for Second Stage students.

Acting for the Camera

Intro to Screen Acting Ages 8-12
Learn the basics of acting for film, TV and video. Students will learn the major differences between stage acting and screen acting.

Auditions & Screen Testing Ages 12-16
Students learn to develop skills for screen testing and on camera scene work. Learn what to expect on a film set from acting to tips on getting acquainted with “the industry”.

Mischievous Mice Ages 3-5
Squeak! Squeak! Come play, dress up and share your favorite stories of those memorable mice that have a knack for getting into trouble. Limit 8.

Playlabs

The following classes will put on a play. Students will audition,
rehearse, and perform. Everyone gets a part!

Size or nature of roles is at the professional discretion of our instructors. All roles provide a valuable learning experience. No refunds granted due to dissatisfaction with assigned roles. Most performances will be videotaped and made available for purchase.

Fantasy and Legends

Pirates at Mermaid Cove! Ages 6-9
Rivalry between Pirates and Mermaids in Neverland is never-ending! When fed-up fairies cast a magic switching spell both groups end up spending a day in one another’s shoes or…fins! This playlab is a true fish out of water tale!

Write Your Own Playlab: Adventures in Candy Kingdom! Ages 7-10
The candy people are in trouble! Something BIG is causing total chaos in their sticky sweet kingdom! Students will develop and perform an original script with plenty of fun, adventure and SUGAR!

Classical Theater

The Grouch Ages 10-14
Sour dispositions date back to the Greeks with Menander’s famous story of “The Grouch”. Everyone in the village is afraid of old Knemon’s wrath. This hilarious parody has it all including love, grouchiness, comedy and even a little bit of disco. Recommended for Second Stage Students.

Sibling Survival Guide Ages8-12
Can’t live with them, can’t live without them! This humorous “how to” playlab shares useful tips on how to cope with your sibling through the good, the bad and the irritating!

The Emperor’s New Clothes Ages 7-11
From master storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, comes a humorous story of greed & vanity. This modern musical adaptation is filled with many colorful characters including mysterious con artists, an honest child and one very under-dressed Emperor!

Each winter we offer a unique class that allows families to rehearse and perform together!


The Best of “Bye Bye Birdie” Ages 7 & Up!
Join the fun with a celebration of the Broadway classic Bye Bye Birdie! Great songs for kids and adults! Families will enjoy this lively 50s style playlab with its upbeat songs, memorable characters and that famous last kiss!

Workshops


Scouts & Brownie Badge Workshop Ages 7 & Up
Attend a drama class, see a show and complete your theater badge all on the same day! Time for a short meal is provided. Scout leader is free. Other parents/chaperones pay half price. Boys are welcome, although activities may not qualify for boy scout theater badge.
