Dance your way through the holidays with NWCT’s original tap extravaganza. Young Cinderella knows she’s destined for the stage, but with jealous relatives standing between her and the spotlight, she will need courage, passion, and a little magic. This holiday musical is perfect for the whole family and will keep your toes tapping until the stroke of midnight.

Cinderella originally premiered at NWCT in 2013 to sold out houses and rave reviews. The Oregonian hailed the production as “… a gem of sophisticated accessibility, hipness and wit” and “… impossible not to love.” The 2017 revival features new scenes, songs, and blockbuster dance numbers. It also features a knockout cast of powerhouse performers, including award-winners Camille Trinka (Cinderella), Ithica Tell (The Stepmother), and NWCT’s Associate Artistic Director John Ellingson (Prince Bobby).

Cinderella springs to life from the imagination of composer/pianist Ezra Weiss, an experienced local band leader who has won awards for his songs and arrangements. Weiss also wrote music and lyrics for NWCT’s popular productions Alice in Wonderland and Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus! His script for Cinderella takes its inspiration from the works of Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Rogers and Hart.

Weiss was originally offered the project by Artistic Director Sarah Jane Hardy with the charge to create a Cinderella who was strong and empowered. “I said to myself, ‘What if Ethel Merman were going to play Cinderella?’ says Weiss, “This was the first show I wrote since becoming a parent and I didn’t want to propagate the myth of the helpless girl needing a handsome and wealthy prince to come save her.” In creating the finished play, Weiss drew inspiration from the works of the Gershwins, Cole Porter, and Rogers and Hart.

All four productions in the 25th Season will include NWCT’s new Sensory Friendly Performances. Featuring shorter run-times, no intermission, reduced or removed lighting and sound cues, and the constant presence of house lights, these performances are specially designed for children on the autism spectrum or with other sensory sensitivities. NWCT’s 2017-18 Season offers four Sensory Friendly Performances free of charge. Sign-interpreted and Audio-described performances will be offered for all productions as well.

Cinderella is produced in part through the support of the Collins Foundation, Regional Arts and Culture Council and Work for Art, Kafoury & McDougal, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, World of Smiles Dentistry, the Oregon Arts Commission, and NWCT Donor Circle Members. More than 3,000 school children will stretch their wings during 6 student matinee performances.
