Playlabs

The following classes will end with a playlab performance.
Students will audition, rehearse, and perform.
Everyone gets a part!
Size or nature of roles is at the professional discretion of our instructors.
All roles provide a valuable learning experience.
No refunds granted due to dissatisfaction with assigned roles.


Despicable Minions Ages 7-9
The time has come for henchmen, cronies, and minions everywhere to hit the big city! When their former leader mysteriously vanishes, a stalwart crew of second fiddles sets out to find a new super-villain to serve. Filled with small, yellow bundles of humor and adventure, this is the perfect playlab for any child drawn to the villainous side of the path.

Pony: The Magic of Friendship Ages 7-9
Ponies of Equestria unite! When a magical kingdom is covered in darkness by a mysterious eclipse only Princess Sparkle, her loyal companions, and the magic of friendship can set things right. Go on a mystical, sparkling, pony-filled adventure in this fantastical playlab perfect for young performers ready to step into the spotlight.

Jack’s Nightmarish Christmas Ages 9-12
What’s this? What this? There’s something in the air! This musical treat (or trick) tells the haunting tale of holidays gone wrong. When a magical portal is opened between the lands of Halloween and Christmas, the holiday world is thrown into disarray. It’s up to the Pumpkin King to save both holidays with the help of ghouls, ghosts, and other creatures that go bump in the night.

The Importance of Being Earnest About Zombies Ages 12-16
Algernon is in love with Cecily, but she thinks she is in love with a man named Ernest, which is ACTUALLY the alias of her guardian Jack, who is desperately in love with Algernon’s cousin Gwendolen, who is actually a walking dead searching for her next meal of human brains. Classic Oscar Wilde. Recommended for Studio NW students.

Skills Classes

From intro level to advanced, the following classes are
designed to help students hone specific theater skills.


Acting

Acting Essentials Ages 7-11
Learn the fundamentals of acting including: voice and projection, physicality and grounding, and imagination. This class is the perfect stepping stone for students looking to become well-rounded performers. Suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Acting for the Camera Ages 7-14
Step off the stage and onto the silver (or smartphone) screen. Learn the tips and tricks of film and video acting from industry professionals and prepare to be the next internet sensation!

Stage Combat Ages 10-16
This Fall, learn how to fall… and tumble, roll, slap, punch, kick, and stab your scene partner safely. Trained fight choreographers will lead students through the essentials of stage combat as they learn how to balance safety and control with live performance. Recommended for Studio NW & Studio JR students.

Musical Theater & Dance


Harmony! Ages 8-14
Ready to take your vocal performance to the next level? Develop the foundations of proper vocal technique, choral singing, and, of course, Harmony in this nine-week choral experience! Students will explore their vocal range with song styles including musical theater, pop, folk, and more! Recommended for Studio JR students.

Voice & Dance Combo: Songs of the Magical Kingdom Ages 7-14
Learn the basics of musical theater song and dance through classic melodies plucked from the heart of the happiest place on earth! Students will workshop group choreography as well as solo performances.

Students explore theater through creative drama -
themed play, character creation, world building, games, crafts, and more!


Thumbelina’s Little Big World Ages 6-8
Thumbelina was born inside a barleycorn and raised in a walnut-shell cradle. Come explore her world, filled with enormous plants, animals, and insects. Based on the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen, students will shrink down to the size of a seed as they create a world filled with magic and mystery.

Wayside World Ages 6-8

First Stage

NWCT offers these exciting theater classes
for our youngest performers.


Celebrate Seuss Ages 4-6
Oh, the thinks you can think when you think about Seuss! Enter the delightful, dream-like world of Dr. Seuss, where elephants climb trees, entire cities perch on the edge of a dust-speck, and Zooks eat their bread with the butter side down. Students will explore their favorite stories through music, movement, storytelling, and crafts!

Very Hungry Caterpillars: The World of Eric Carle Ages 3-4
Help your youngest thespian take their first step onstage in this NWCT First Stage class dedicated to learning the basics of performance. From music to guided creative drama this class will explore the classic stories of beloved author Eric Carle including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and more!
