designed to help students hone specific theater skills.

Acting

Introduction to Acting Ages 6-14
This fun format introduces students to basic acting techniques, tips and terms. Class will work on projection, stage direction, theater etiquette, scene work and more. Students will be invited to attend a free performance of Rapunzel. Suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Intermediate Acting Ages 11-16
Review basic acting techniques then move on to in-depth character analysis, monologues, scene work and more. Intermediate students will be invited to attend a free performance of Rapunzel. Previous class or performance work required.

Improvisation Station! Ages 9-14
Buckle up and prepare for a wild ride to the Improvisation Station! Learn exciting improvisation and theater games to help you think on your feet. The class will end with a student created improvisational game show!

Shakespeare-ience! Ages 11-18
This winter we celebrate The Bard himself, William Shakespeare! George will introduce students to Elizabethan times, selected scenes and language. This class goes hand in hand with our winter play lab, The Winter’s Tale. Take combo for $300, no other discounts apply.

Private Coaching All Ages
For one-on-one intensive coaching for musical and non-musical theater, a coach will help you choose and polish music or monologues, or work on specific acting needs. Learn tips on preparation and find out what to expect when you audition. One session or multiple sessions available. By appointment only, 503-222-2190.

Film and Video

Basic TV/Film Acting Ages 8-16
Award-winning producer Sandra Peabody develops talent for television, commercials and film, and coaches both locally and nationally. Join her on-camera class for instant feedback as you work on professional audition and presentation skills, essential improvisation, and scenes using film and commercial scripts. Limit 8.

Musical Theater

Classes held in our new Anna G. Bennett Dance Studio!
Some dance shoes are available at a reasonable price.


Voice & Dance Combo Ages 8-14
Students will be introduced to basic techniques of voice and dance — half and half! Classes will do one hour of voice and one hour of dance. The emphasis is on musical theater performance skills.

So You Want to Dance 2! Ages 11-16
Dancing is cool plus you want to feel more confident at musical auditions? This class is a good place to start. Roz will answer dance questions, teach basic terms and steps you might encounter at auditions plus let you sample Broadway, jazz, Latin, hip-hop, and other popular dance styles.

Monkey Parade! Ages 3½-5
Look out! Here come the monkeys! There are big ones and small ones, with hats and without. They sing, they march and they have banana fights! Come and join the monkeys on parade! Limit 8.

Playlabs

The following classes will put on a play. Students will audition,
rehearse, and perform. Everyone gets a part!

Size or nature of roles is at the professional discretion of our instructors. All roles provide a valuable learning experience. No refunds granted due to dissatisfaction with assigned roles. Most performances will be videotaped and made available for purchase.

Fantasy, Folk and Fairytales

Peter and The Wolves Ages 7-10
Peter and his band of animal friends are on their way to a concert when trouble arises. Their biggest competition, The Wolves, are on the path to cause havoc! A jazz inspired retelling set to Prokofiev’s suite, Peter’s band bravely battles The Wolves!

The Creature in the Classroom! Ages 8-11
It appeared inside our classroom, it ate paper, swallowed ink. As it gobbled up our homework, I believe I saw it wink! Celebrate the imagination of Jack Prelutsky as you help create a playlab based on his quirky poems including The Creature in the Classroom!

Contemporary Theater

Dorky Kid’s Revenge! Ages 10-14
Dorks, wimps, and nerds of the world unite! This wacky play celebrates togetherness in being different as the students of Ryan Middle School find ways to thwart the notorious bullies. Students will work on character development and comic technique in this fun and timely play lab.

Cinderella Ages 9-14
Humor and magic are woven together in this lively version of the timeless French story! A poor young girl’s life of drudgery is suddenly changed to one of remarkable fortune in this musical complete with favorite characters, great costumes and a fairy tale ending.

One of Shakespeare’s most beautiful works, this winter based tragic-comedy has something for all. Featuring a lonely king, a queen turned to stone and of course, star crossed lovers. Family Theater

Each winter we offer a family class. This unique experience allows families to relate to each other in a new way as they rehearse and perform together. Sign up now and share a special time with your young person.

Ellah and the Goblin King Ages 8 & Up!
The village adults blame the catastrophes and disappearances on the cruel goblins that live in the tall mountain. When her father goes missing, young Ellah decides to find the Goblin King and break the goblin’s hold over their lives. A musical adventure awaits in this original fairy tale playlab. Parents welcome for $35 each.

Scouts & Brownie Badge Workshop Ages 7 & Up
Boys welcome too—(planned activities may not qualify boys for a theater badge.) Attend a theater class, see a show and complete your theater badge on the same day! Room for a short meal is provided. Scout leader is free. Other parents/chaperones pay half-price.
