designed to help students hone specific theater skills.

Acting
Introduction to Acting Ages 6-14
Learn basic acting techniques, tips and terms. This fun format introduces students to voice projection, stage direction, theater etiquette, scene work and more. Students will be invited to attend a free performance of Robin Hood. Suggested prerequisite to playlab classes.

Intermediate Acting Ages 11-16
Review basic acting techniques then move on to in-depth character analysis, monologues, scene work and more. Intermediate students will be invited to attend a free performance of Robin Hood. Previous class or performance work required.

Private Coaching All Ages
One-on-one intensive coaching for musical and non-musical theater will help you choose and polish music, monologues or scenes and give you audition tips and techniques. One session or multiple sessions available. By appointment only, 503-222-2190.
NWCT does not consider coaching a substitute for class work.

Musical Theater

Classes held in our new Anna G. Bennet Dance Studio!
Some dance shoes are available at a reasonable price.


Beginning Tap Ages 7-14
F’lap-hop-step, f’lap-hop-step! Even Fred Astaire had to start somewhere! This class focuses on individual tap steps and builds to short tap routines for happy feet!

Beginning Ballet Ages 4-7
Young dancers will be gently introduced to ballet fundamentals such as body alignment, vocabulary, basic foot positions and the joy of dance. Hey boys! Even athletes take ballet.

Voice & Dance Combo Ages 8-14
Students will be introduced to basic techniques of voice and dance — half and half! Classes will do 55 minutes with voice and 55 minutes with dance. The emphasis is on musical theater performance skills.

Acting ABCs Ages 4½-6
“A” is for acting and “B” is for backstage and “C” is for costumes that we love! Beginners will be introduced to theater basics as they act out stories, work with puppets, play theater games and start to build musical skills.

The Mice and the Lion Ages 3½-5
Squeak! Will the tiny mice really be able to save the strong lion? This fable-based theater will introduce young children to performance basics, encouraging imagination, self expression and self-esteem.

Penguin Party! Ages 4½-6
Every year the penguins gather at the South Pole for a grand celebration. This year, however, the polar bears decide to crash the party! What to do? This short play is just right for beginning actors.

Basic TV/Film Acting Ages 8-16
Award-winning Sandra Peabody develops talent for television, commercials and film, and coaches both locally and nationally. Join her on-camera class for instant feedback as you work on professional audition and presentation skills, essential improvisation, and scenes using film and commercial scripts. Class limit 8.

Classical Theater
“Peg” May Leon Ages 12-16
Based on the classic play, Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, this modern adaptation will take you down to the farm! Peg May, or known by the locals as “Piggie” May, is a down and dirty pig farmer. Her barnyard fate changes when Hayden Houston, all around gentlemen, takes on a bet to make &ldqou;Piggie” into the belle of the ball – or rather, the annual box social! Class emphasis is on comedic technique.
